At the risk of sounding like I know nothing about your field, doesn't ethnography specifically refer to a study of a group of people, typically an ethnicity or a subculture? How does it apply to computer science, are you talking about submersive research of groups of people using a specific technology? It's just so far outside the traditional definition of the word, it's bizarre and kinda esoteric, though I can see the application. It seems to me that what you're referring to here as ethnography is in fact user-studies, which coupled with design will hopefully improve a certain technology? Just trying to understand.
