dream

I had a dream last night that I was suddenly plopped down into someone else's body and mind. Their body was bigger than I was used to, and didn't move at all like my body did. Its balance was different, different muscles were tight and loose, fingers moved in unpredictable ways, movements would have too much force or too little. I could hardly coordinate it; even just walking threw off my balance and made me lurch. Their mind was also very foreign. Different things stood out to it, and its memory worked in an entirely different way: different things triggered it, and different things were stored in it. I would try to remember something in the ways I was used to and would come up with nothing. If I just let my mind wander, sometimes the memory I was trying to access would suddenly come up, but it would seem somehow wrong. Not as I would normally have remembered it. All of "my" memories were there but they were encoded differently. I dreamed that I went to some random theory class in 306 Soda Hall, and I was so wrapped up in how differently this mind and body functioned that I had a hard time paying attention. It was very strange.

I often have weird dreams when I'm sick. Maybe this one came up because my body does feel somewhat foreign when it's fighting some pathogen.

I too often have strange dreams when I'm sick. My theory is that it's from too much heat. The weirdest dreams I've ever had have been when I was running a high fever, and even when I'm not sick, my dreams end up vivid and strange when I have too many blankets. Then again, the dreams that I'm thinking of have less obvious themes of foreign bodies. :)

Hope you feel better soon.

/me hopes you feel better soon. And that sounds like a crazy-arse dream, I wish I could dream something like that. I'm myself in most of my dreams... Though I /can/ phase. ^-^

Very cool dream. I almost never dream when I'm sick -- I'm too busy being tired to dream. I always have wierd dreams when I wake up about six hours into the night, and then go back to sleep. I used to set my alarm early on purpose because, if I know I'm going to have a wierd dream, I can usually recognize it and control my actions.

And when I'm in control, I can move things with my mind!

Wow. Everyone else on lj seems to have such interesting dreams. Yours is fascinating. I usually dream that something terrible is chasing me, and I can't escape, or something gruesome is happening. When I keep an account of my dreams it just reads like a horror story :\

I used to track my nightmares, because they almost always had one of a few themes. One was animals chasing me. Some dream book said if you turn around to face the thing chasing you, you would stop having chase dreams. Ha! The animal would just tear into me. Another is being trapped in the house where I grew up with a violent, clever person outside trying to get me, to rape/murder me. Sometimes I'd start in the yard, sometimes he'd be in the house, but the general theme remains.

I haven't had chase dreams for a long time, but I still get the latter dream occasionally. I wonder what a dream analyst would say about it all. I'm of the opinion that dreams don't symbolize the complicated freudian things that some say they do, but their general themes are important reflections of your mental state.

Being able to control dreams is fun, especially when it's a nightmare and you'd like it to have some better ending, but I find it hard not to be self-aware, which ruins the flow.

How many of you have flying dreams? I've never had any that I remember. I've read that some good portion of the population have them fairly frequently, and another portion never have them.

I can sometimes fly in my dreams. But ironically, it's usually only when I'm being chased, trying to escape from someone. Then, it is this painfully slow process, almost like swimming through thick water, and I can barely get out of reach of whatever is behind me. So it takes something of the joy out of being able to fly!

I sort-of have flying dreams. It's the other power I usually have, along with telekinesis, when I manage to realize that I'm dreaming. See, the thing is, I don't feel like I'm flying, I feel like I've redefined down, and I'm falling forwards. Later I found a perfect description of how I feel when I dream I can fly: I've launched myself at the ground, and missed.
